As I’ve gotten back into the field to sell, I’ve realized that of the two words “field sales,” the word “sales” gets too much attention! The truth is that “field” is actually the difficult part. At the time I’m writing this, the weather is rainy and chilly, not a pleasant day outside. Thus, I am thinking about reasons NOT to get out in the field. Why is getting out there so difficult? Most of you reading this probably already have the passion to sell and some experience in how to sell. Perhaps you have no accountability.
Allow me to share my personal experience. This morning my wife, Christina, who is a volunteer teacher at a private Christian school, left at 7:20 a.m. and took my daughter and son with her. My daughter goes to the school, and my son is off to the sitter. So there is no one at my house; no one knows what I’m doing. My business partner isn’t expecting me in the office since I’m supposed to be out in the field selling. Many of you are experiencing this same problem of no accountability when you wake in the morning. That’s one reason a CRM database is so important. You need something to track what you’re supposed to do; make sure someone is seeing that record. In my case, I have a business partner who’s able to keep tabs. You also need to have accountability. Your spouse, a friend, significant other, someone you respect should know what you’re doing. In today’s world to add someone to your work space in our marketing platform is very easy. Then this person can see your work and make comments. When I was in the field the first time six years ago, my wife was actually in my CRM database. I would tag her back and forth, rather like Facebook messaging.
I encourage you to add someone to your work space in Podio in our platform. Let this person play along with you and see what you’re doing in the field. Having some accountability is important.
Have a great day in the field!
